Home Improvement Made As Easy As Possible

September 1, 2013 by Shen

Home improvement jobs alter your home and the value of it, in a good way, but possibly a bad way. Continue reading to learn simple tips on how to improve the look and value of your home.

You just need two tips to make your ceiling seem higher. Try painting stripes on the wall or you can just add a taller floor lamp. Doing this creates the illusion of height. You will focus on the lines, and you will create the illusion of a bigger room with higher ceilings.

Update any room with new flooring. Whether you opt for carpet, laminate flooring, tile or even stained concrete, you have a few options. You can install some flooring on your own in a few days, or you can hire a professional for a major project.

Do not allow your contractor to start unless a contract is signed. If you can, have a lawyer look over the contract before signing it. Details like the warranty, work list and the dates of start and finish should be included in the contract.

Use a sponge to help your drywall instead of sanding. Don’t sand your drywall seams, sponge them. Once you’re used to it, you can smooth out drywall seams with a damp sponge just as well as you could sanding. It’s worth the investment to learn since you won’t have to inhale all that dust.

If you are thinking about home improvement, consider which part of your house needs the work first. It is not necessary to transform the entire house all at one time, and it may make sense to make renovations gradually to spread out your expenses. You should plan ahead and look for price deals on required project items. This is a great way to put more money back in your pocket and improve your home at the same time.

In time, the ceramic tiles on your floor may look grimy. Try using a water/vinegar solution to clean it up. Just put some vinegar in a bucket of water and scrub. This will eliminate the dirt and grime, making the floors look shiny and new.

When you start your improvement jobs, don’t be quick to demolish. You need to ensure that your structures are not a support to your home before you rip them out. If electrical components are involved, you could make quite a mess.

What do you use to clear out clogs? There is a wide range of products available, and many are extremely hard on your pipes. It’s best not to use drain cleaners that are crystallized, because they’re known to stick to pipes, and they can cause long term damage. Your drain cleaner should be safe to use for your particular type of septic tank.

You should put water resistant wall boards in when you are doing plumbing improvements. This water-resistant board is commonly referred to as “green board” by contractors and those in the industry. It can tolerate moisture rich environments, and will resist mold as well as water.

With any luck, this article has convinced you that it is possible. If you use the tips here on your next home improvement job, you are going to have your dream home to show off.
