Travel Can Be Fun Again With These Helpful Planning Tips

July 22, 2013 by Shen

Traveling to far-off places and seeing the world is enjoyable and fun for most people. One thing that spoils your travel fun, though, is paying too much money to do it. Read this article for some helpful tips to maximize your travel experiences while minimizing your expenses.

Take a minimum of valuable items with you when you travel. If you decide to bring valuables, you could lose them, or they could even be stolen.

Create a list of the items you need to pack. You should begin creating the list of things to pack a few days or weeks in advance. This way, even if you pack the day before you leave, it will be easier and you won’t forget any essential items.

Always plan ahead when traveling by air. The trip to the airport requires that you give ample time to deal with traffic, rush hour conditions and other unexpected delays. Pack your bags, including your carry-on, before you go to bed. Be prepared long before you have to be at the airport. It feels terrible to miss your flight.

TIP! Avoid foods that may contain something you’re allergic to hiding in a dish. If your food allergy is particularly bad, make sure to express this in their language.

Be aware of certain food allergies when going to a foreign country in order to avoid bad liaisons. You need to know the language’s food related words, particularly if you have bad reactions to foods. That way you can ask the waitstaff if their selections have the allergen in their ingredients.

Always keep in mind where your belongings are, and keep your most important items in a place you always have access to. Carry your purse securely under your arm. Also avoid pocketbooks which are easily opened by others on a busy street or subway. Keep these things in mind when you’re looking for a useful travel bag.

When traveling by air you should wear comfortable shoes which can be slipped off easily. Security checks at airports now require you to remove your shoes. They should always be comfortable. Most of the time during air travel is spent sitting, not walking, so you don’t need a lot of foot support. Flip-flops or slip-on shoes are recommended for air travel.

If your travel takes you to amusement parks or any other place that requires tickets, purchase them online. Many times you can print them at home and save some money, too. The small fee for such a service is worth it to avoid long lines. Another option to skip admission is by using the timed entry into the park.

TIP! Clothespins can be a useful item while traveling. Clothespins are not a typical travel item for many people, but should be reconsidered given their usefulness and versatility.

Travel is a great teaching tool, especially for children and young adults. If you are safe, even third world countries can be an opportunity to show children how life is in different places. Time spent abroad helps you understand and appreciate diverse cultures. In addition, it encourages an acceptance and tolerance of ways of life that differ from your own.

When traveling to other countries, pack bottled water. Because other countries do not purify their water, you can get many illnesses from drinking it. Don’t forget to use bottled water when brushing your teeth either. Just using the bad water to brush your teeth can make you sick.

Some travel sites offer a useful E-tracking option. This option keeps you informed about the cheapest ways to travel. You are able to receive alert via email whenever something has changed with regards to your travel arrangements.

Take sleeping pills if you need helping sleeping through a flight. For many people, sleeping on a plane is almost impossible, between the uncomfortable seats and the noise level. If you have trouble sleeping while flying, feel free to have a sleeping pill shortly before your flight in order to help you relax and possibly get a nap in during the trip. Always wait until you are safely in the air before taking your sleeping pill because delays can happen or planes can be grounded.

TIP! As soon as you can, find out if you need a visa for entry to the country that you plan to visit. Acquiring a visa can be a lengthy process, so do not wait until the last minute to apply.

Try to avoid exchanging currency when you are in a new country. Getting foreign currency can be done in a better way. A better way to obtain currency in the new country is by using ATM machines. ATMs usually offer better exchange rates, and are more convenient than going to a currency exchange anyway.

Contact lens cases are a useful container for traveling. If you are only using a small bit of these products, carry them in one of these containers.

If you wear them, have an extra pair of eyeglasses with you when you travel. This way, if your glasses break on your flight or on your trip, you have a spare pair. Put them in your suitcase, so that if your bag was stolen, you still have them.

Sign up for email newsletters offered by most major airlines. These emails will give you special deals and information regarding the travel they offer. Yes, they will probably clutter your email, but you’ll save a good amount of money by putting up with this small problem.

TIP! If you have hotels booked on your trip, consider bringing a few travel candles. Candles will make the room smell good.

If you are going on a camping trip and planning on hiking make sure you have maps of the area that you are in and carry them with you. You should carry a compass, or even a GPS, so you can navigate in unfamiliar territory. Make sure you know how to use them!

Before traveling to a foreign country, remember to purchase a high quality voltage converter or electrical adapter from an electronics store. If you purchase one at the airport or from a shop near your hotel, you are more than likely going to pay three or four times the normal price.

Plan ahead and exchange some of your currency before you leave on our trip. Sometimes exchanging currency can be a difficult task, so it’s best to get it done before you truly need it. Most large banks are able to sell you foreign currency, so just stop by the bank before heading to the airport and your fun can start when the plane lands.

If a travel site has an E-tracking option, utilize it. This is the easiest way to keep an eye on fares and hotel prices. You’ll get an email alert of price reductions for flights and hotels you’re interested in.

TIP! A road trip is the perfect opportunity to listen to playlists of your favorite music, so do not forget to bring your CDs or MP3 player with you. As you travel further away from your home, you may experience annoying static and poor reception from your favorite radio station; bringing your own music solves this problem.

Prior to doing any traveling with your canine friends, be sure to give their coats a very thorough brushing. This will lessen the dog hair that ends up in the car. Take items for the dogs such as food, water, bowls and cleanup bags.

These cables let you connect your laptop to the hotel’s TV when you are in your room. This will allow you to watch movies through your Netflix account, or streaming video, instead of ordering expensive pay-per-view movies offered through your hotel.

Take some time to learn about local regulations and customs before your plane sets down. Failure to do so can result in people being angry with you, or even jail time over something you wouldn’t have expected to be a problem. Behave appropriately when you are traveling, and respect local customs.

Stretch your legs once per hour or more when you’re on a long flight. You can do this by walking to the restroom, even if you don’t have to go. If you sit for too long, your muscles will cramp up, and in serious cases, could put you at risk for blood clots.

TIP! For the best exchange rates on currency, wait to change your money until you arrive on your vacation. Waiting to exchange your money can often times get you a better exchange rate.

If you apply the tips introduced in this article, you’ll become a smarter and happier traveler. If you can save money on all the incidences of travel, you might enjoy the trip more.
